Slack

Overview

Slack channel uses Socket Mode WebSocket (no public endpoint needed) with the Web API for messaging.

Credentials

  1. Create a Slack App at api.slack.com
  2. Enable Socket Mode → get App-Level Token (xapp-)
  3. Install to workspace → get Bot Token (xoxb-)
  4. Required scopes: chat:write, reactions:write, app_mentions:read, im:history, im:read

Group Chat

Messages in channels use thread replies (thread_ts). The agent responds in the same thread.

Reconnection

Reconnection uses a fixed backoff ladder, not exponential backoff. After each failure it waits 2 → 5 → 10 → 30 → 60 seconds in turn, then stays at 60 rather than growing further:

  • A successful connection resets the ladder immediately, so transient flapping does not accumulate into minute-long waits.
  • Rate limiting takes a separate path: the channel waits 300 seconds before retrying, independent of the ladder above.
  • Reconnection continues for as long as the channel runs; there is no maximum retry count.
